AACHEN CATHEDRAL TREASURY, Carolingian Gospel Book [c.759-810]
One of a fine group of manuscripts made for use at the Carolingian court, and known collectively as the New Palace School. Several artists may have been involved, and they all make use of illusionistic landscapes and details of classical architecture, which suggests that the Early Christian models from which they worked contained some late antique features.
