b. Philadelphia d. London. American illustrator and painter who studied at Pennsylvania Academy and went to England in 1878. A master of delicate, graceful, pen line, with instinctive imagination grasp of England's past, he is best known for illustrations for Shakespeare, Herrick, and Goldsmith's She Stoops To Conquer.
