Quick Reference Dictionary of Art/The Drawing Place
WHAT IS A "HOBSON'S CHOICE"?
Hobson is my last name and "THE DRAWING PLACE" is my site; therefore, it seems reasonable to assume, that The Drawing Place would be my choice of sites. It also stands to reason then, that in all likelihood, I believe The Drawing Place is a choice site...which I do. It's interesting to note, however, that when "Hobson's" and "choice" are used together, they take on still another meaning. According to the dictionary, a "Hobson's Choice" is:
The choice of taking either the thing offered or nothing. [after Thomas Hobson, about 1544-1631, of Cambridge, England, who rented horses, and obliged each customer to take in his turn the horse nearest the stable door or none at all.]
This is how "The Drawing Place" came to be called,"A Hobson's Choice Site"...a choice with no real alternatives. (So I'm proud. Shoot me!)
